The personal information and Social Security numbers of about 1,100 users of Connecticut’s state health insurance marketplace might have been compromised after a security breach last fall, officials said.

Access Health CT users affected by the email security breach will receive an orange envelope in the mail this week with information on how to enroll in credit monitoring or enact a credit freeze, officials with the marketplace said Tuesday. People will also be contacted by phone and email.

Technical staff found a large volume of spam was being sent from an employee account that was compromised by a phishing scam on Oct. 31 and immediately disabled it, said Susan Rich-Bye, the marketplace’s director of legal and governmental affairs.

Those affected include customers new to the marketplace this year, and some who bought insurance through the platform in previous years, Rich-Bye added.

CEO James Michel apologized to customers in a statement and said the public notice was being made out of an abundance of caution.
