Pink Slips for 328 More State Workers

Layoff notices continued to go out to state employees Wednesday, even as Gov. Dannel Malloy's administration talked with union leaders to try and avoid the job cuts.

An additional 328 employees got pink slips this week, according to Malloy's office.

Monday, leaders of SEBAC, the bargaining coalition that represents Connecticut state workers, amended its bylaws, which now allow a simple majority of members to vote for ratification of a contract agreement.

Last month, union members voted down a $1.6 billion concession agreement, which prompted Malloy to issue the layoff notices. In all, more than 6,500 state employees are slated to lose their jobs.

A deal may be in place in the next few days that will lead to a new vote by state workers on a concessions agreement.

Layoff notices will continue to go out until an agreement is reached, according to Malloy senior adviser Roy Occhiogrosso. He said the administration and union representatives could reach an agreement in the next few days.
