The barricade situation that shut down Route 83 in Vernon on Monday evening has been peacefully resolved after a several-hour standoff.
Vernon police said a barricaded man with a gun was in an apartment above a business on the 200 block of Talcottville Road with a woman and started around 5 p.m.
Police are not describing the woman as a hostage but said she was in the apartment voluntarily.
People in several nearby businesses were evacuated and the situation was contained to one building.
The suspect has been placed under arrest just before 10 p.m.
The road was shut down between Naek Road and Sunset Terrace, according to police.
About a dozen of different police districts came to assist on the scene.
