Family of Woman Killed in Waterbury Hit-and-Run Wants Justice

Police are investigating after a 71-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle that fled the scene in Waterbury.

Nancy Martin, of Waterbury, was crossing East Main Street just feet away from her home Friday night when she was hit by the vehicle. She later died at the hospital, according to police.

Her son, David Martin, says the family is shattered.

"She didn’t deserve to die like that," he said.

Police said a only witness at the scene told them a male driving a small dark blue or black car, possibly a Honda, hit Martin before taking off.

Nancy Martin was a wife, a mother of five, and a grandmother of seven. Her family told NBC Connecticut she spent 25 years as a nursing assistant and went to church every Sunday. She liked to sing and spent time with her family whenever she could.

"She was always happy and always in a good mood," said daughter Laura Martin.

The family wants the driver to come forward, and know they hurt someone who spent her life trying to heal others.

The investigating is ongoing.
