A woman who was injured in a hit-and-run in Hartford Monday afternoon has died, according to police.
Police say they received a call just before noon reporting a hit and run, occurring just after the intersection of Hillside and New Britain Avenue.
When officers arrived they found 55-year-old Sharlene Mansfield in the street, and unresponsive. She was transported to Hartford Hospital where she was pronounced dead just before 2 p.m.
“Right now we believe we have a dark colored sedan that was traveling north on Hillside Avenue at a high rate of speed,” said Lt. Aaron Boisvert, Hartford Police. “When it struck the pedestrian it was traveling in the southbound lane so it was traveling in the wrong lane.”
Police have collected and reviewed surveillance video, which NBC Connecticut viewed as well but has chosen not to air due to its graphic nature. In the video, the suspect’s vehicle can be seen coming into the frame just after Mansfield was struck, driving on the wrong side of the road.
The video shows Mansfield being thrown into the air and landing in the roadway quite a distance from where she was hit. The car that hit her does not appear to slow down, does not stop and continues down Hillside Avenue. The footage also shows two vehicles driving past the victim after she is lying in the roadway.

"It was so hard...you felt it over here," Medina said. "He didn’t stop, he just kept going. I mean just left her there to die."
While police would not give additional specifics about the car involved, they say it could be stolen.
Yolanda Crockett, Mansfield's sister, said her sister was on the way to the store for her mother, who she was caring for.
"Everyone that knew her loved her. For something like this to happen, its not accepted. My family is looking for justice," Crockett said.
"She was what you would call glue in the family," Kara Smith, Mansfield's cousin, added. "There’s certain people that always bring the family together and squash arguments and things, that was Sharlene."
