Man Killed in Overnight Shooting in New Haven

A man was shot and killed overnight in the Hill neighborhood of New Haven. 

Officers were called to Congress Avenue and Redfield Street around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday after getting a ShotSpotter alert and 911 calls of a person shot.

When police arrived, they said they found a man in the road who had been shot. He was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The victim has been identiifed as 28-year-old Thomas Hart, previously of Milford.

There is no suspect in custody at this time, police said.

This is the second homicide of the year in New Haven, and Tuesday night's shooting is the second shooting on Congress Avenue near Redfield Street this week.

On Monday night, police said they responded to the intersection around 7:15 p.m. after getting a ShotSpotter alert.

A short time later, a 21-year-old gunshot victim arrived at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The victim's injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.

It is unclear if the two shootings are related.
