Police Make Arrest in 2013 Killing of New Haven Teen

New Haven police have a suspect in the 2013 killing of a teenager.

Javier Martinez, 18, of New Haven, was walking along Hemmingway Street to a friend's house on December 28, 2013 when he was approached by two men who tried to rob him, according to police. Martinez struggled with the men before he tried to run away. That is when he was shot multiple times and was killed.

After a more than 5-year investigation, police were able to identify a suspect and secured an arrest warrant for 22-year-old Tyhitt Bember, of New Haven.

Bember faces charges of felony murder, first-degree criminal attempted robbery, and carrying a pistol without a permit in connection with Martinez's death.

He is already in prison for another shooting that took place in New Haven in January 2014.
