Robbers Hit Employee in Face, Pulled Knife on Witness

West Hartford police are trying to identify two men who robbed a West Hartford tobacco shop, hit an employee in the face and pulled a knife on a customer.

The first robber went into the House of Tobacco, at 1253 New Britain Ave., just before 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, approached the employee and asked for change, police said.

When the cashier opened the register, the man pulled out a black gun, hit the employee in the face and took cash from the register, police said.

As a witness entered the store, another robber enters the store, approached the witness with a knife and demanded his wallet, police said.

The other robber continued to grab more cash from the register as this was happening, police said.

The two robbers then left in a dark
vehicle, which might have been an SUV.

The robber with the gun was wearing a dark hooded sweat shirt, dark pants, and a black baseball hat and has a distinctive tattoo under his left eye, police said.

The robber with the knife was wearing a black hoodie and pants.
