East Haven Man Murders Girlfirend, Shoots Himself: Cops

Police have identified the man who they say shot and killed his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself Sunday night in East Haven.

Authorities discovered the bodies of Ingrid Del Rio-Garcia, 37, and her boyfriend of 10 years, Guillermo Rodriguez, 43, inside a Foxon Boulevard home Monday night after a relative of Del Rio-Garcia's became concerned approached an officer patrolling the area.

Police found Del Rio-Garcia in the living room and said she had been shot multiple times in the chest and arm. Rodriguez was found in a rear hallway. Police said he shot himself in the head.

Investigators believe the deadly shooting occurred Sunday night. Police said they found a threatening note in the apartment that alluded to the couple's relationship with their children and a possible custody dispute.

The two had lived together at the home on Foxon Boulevard for five years and leave behind three children under the age of 18, two of whom are both Del Rio-Garcia's and Rodriguez's, according to police.

Investigators found two handguns and one long gun in the home, all legally registered to Rodriguez, who had proper permits, according to police. One was found on the couch and another in Rodriguez's hand.

Family members told NBC Connecticut Del Rio-Garcia had planned to move to Florida in just a few weeks.

"She was a happy girl. She was a happy mom, happy sister," said the victim's sister, Evelyn Del Rio. "I came to see her two weeks ago and she was so excited when I came. She told all the family, 'Oh, Evelyn is coming.' So we had a good time. That was the last time I saw her."

The state Department of Children and Families is involved in the case.

"Unfortunately I'm reporting to you for the second time in two months that we've had a tragedy in the town of East Haven. Two people have lost their lives. Our condolences from the department and the town go out to their families and our thoughts and prayers are with them, as well," said East Haven Lt. David Emerman. "This is not typical East Haven. It's a relatively quiet community."

A friend of Del Rio-Garcia's has set up an account to raise money for the victim's funeral expenses. Community members can donate to the Ingrid Del Rio Fund at TD Bank or through GoFundMe.
