Police: Woman Who ‘Overbred' Yorkshire Terrier is Arrested

A Connecticut woman has been charged with animal cruelty after police said she "overbred" her 8-year-old Yorkshire terrier named Titi.

New Britain police say they arrested 53-year-old Jannet Asakzey on Thursday and she surrendered the dog to animal control officers, who brought it to a veterinarian and were able to find it a new home.

Police say the dog had a large mass growing in its reproductive system that was believed to have been caused by the overbreeding. Officials say Asakzey ignored advice from veterinarians to have the mass removed.

Authorities said Titi also had severe periodontal disease that required the removal of numerous teeth, and it had bone decay in its mouth.

Asakzey was released on $5,000 bail. A message seeking comment was left for her Saturday.
