For high school seniors, good things come in large envelopes. For Emily Misiewicz one good thing was the confirmation she was looking for from the Guinness Book of World Records.
It made it official -- Pomperaug High School set the new record for the number of twins to graduate together, the Waterbury Republican-American reports.
Thirteen sets of twins graduated in the Class of the 2010 last month, three sets more than the previous record set in Massachusetts in 2007.
“We were waiting for a couple of months and I wasn’t expecting anything,” Misiewicz told the Republican-American. “Then I got the package. The first thing I thought was to tell everyone because it’s not just about me, so I went on Facebook and sent everyone a message. This isn’t a huge feat, but I mean it’s something and anyone would take that.”
So, it looks like the town of Southbury will beat out Baker High School in Baldwinsville, New York, from which 12 sets of twins graduated last month, according to the Post Standard.
There seems to be something about this region and graduating twins.
Raymond J. Grey Jr. High School, in Acton, Massachusetts, set the graduating twins record in the 2006-07 year, according to several news reports.
The Pomperaug students told NBC Connecticut in October that there was a fee of several hundred dollars to open an account with the Guinness Book of World Records and apply for a title. They planned to fundraise and it seems like that undertaking was successful.
But, the Republican-American reports, Pomperaug’s twins are not assured inclusion in the upcoming edition of the preeminent record book. But the recognition of setting a record is enough.
“It’s something you get to carry on,” Jake Critelli said. “To tell someone you made a world record, even if we didn’t have to do much to earn it, is still pretty cool.”
Thirteen sets, however, does not set a record for the number of twins in a school. That honor goes to Louis Marshall School in Brooklyn, New York, according to the newspaper. Twenty-nine sets of twins attended the high school during the 1999-2000 school year.
