“Precious” Win for Waterford Native

Sunday night was indeed “Precious” for the Waterford native who wrote the screenplay, “Precious,” based on Sapphire's novel "Push."

Geoffrey Fletcher’s screenplay is the story of a Harlem teen overcoming horrible abuse and neglect, based on the Novel Push by Sapphire and it won some big awards as Hollywood celebrated the best films of 2009.

He made Oscar history by becoming the first African-American to win a writing award, the Envelope reports.
