Public Meeting on Busway

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at CCSU.

A public meeting will be held on Thursday about a proposed $567 million Hartford-New Britain bus route.

The state Department of Transportation will be holding a meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the DiLoreto Multimedia Room in Frank DiLoreto Hall at Central Connecticut State University, 1615 Stanley Street, New Britain.

Critics complain that the bus route costs too much money and would get into the way of a proposed high-speed rail line. Federal officials said it's an affordable way to quickly transport commuters along the often congested Interstate 84.

Gov. Dannel Malloy said he will pursue constructing the busway "while launching a parallel and aggressive plan" for the Bristol/Waterbury rail line and Hartford Mayor Pedro
Segarra said he believes that the bus way is an important part of a bigger transportation picture that will create jobs, reduce traffic and pollution, and establish Hartford as a transportation hub and choice destination.
