Not a stranger to style and flair, fashion designer Austin Scarlett’s next venture involves a Connecticut stage.
The one-time contestant on Project Runway's first season will be creating the outfits for the Greenwich Music Festival’s production of "The Runaway Slave" (El Cimarrón), reports the Greenwich Citizen.
The play, which the New York Times reports involves bestiality, is being performed in the Theater at St. Catherine of Siena in the Riverside section of Greenwich.
"I think he's going to create an amazing dress," Ted Huffman, the festival’s artistic director and co-founder, told the paper.
Costumes “are a major component of the show,” he said.
Huffman and Scarlet are friends and both had previously talked about collaborating on a project.
So it will happen with the production that mixes dance and opera, opens next month and centers around a Cuban slave in the 1860s.

To get a feel for the performance, Scarlett met with actors and festival organizers at the Greenwich Arts Center, where they talked, shared ideas and got fitted for costumes, the Citizen reports.
Before reality TV show fame, Scarlett studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. He also worked as an assistant with Broadway shows.
"It's really a wonderful way to have a much more hands-on, creative (role) with fashion," Scarlett told students, according to the newspaper.
"The Runaway Slave (El Cimarrón)" will be performed June 10, 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. at the theater at St. Catherine of Siena, 4 Riverside Ave. For tickets and information, visit www.greenwichmusicfestival.org.
