Vernon police have identified two suspects who were arrested following a shelter-in-place order Thursday morning.

Police said they were executing a search warrant at a home on Dow Street and there was a heavy police presence in the area.

Residents in the neighborhoods of Rau Street, Grand Avenue, Dow Street and Pillsbury Hill in Vernon were advised to shelter inside their house in the basement, according to police.

Police said while executing the warrant several adults were detained inside a home. They arrested two suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery out of North Carolina.

There was also a child in the home at the time, police said. The situation was resolved peacefully and no one was hurt.

Wardell Sherrill, 21, of North Carolina, and Carlos Jimenez, 22, of Vernon, were each arrested and charged as a fugitive from justice. They were each held on $500,000 bonds and are due to appear in court on Friday.
