Police in Rocky Hill are investigating after shots were fired from one vehicle at another Tuesday and took a suspect into custody.

Police said the shots were fired incident in the area of Orchard Street and Valley Brook Road around 11:50 a.m.

Roads were closed in the area, but have reopened.

There were soft lockdowns at three Rocky Hills schools – Stevens Elementary School, Griswold Middle School and Rocky Hill High Schools, but they have ended and normal operations resumed at all three schools.

A witness called 911 and reported that two cars were speeding down Valley Brook Road and gunshots were heard.

It appears the incident was not random and that the intended target of the shooting may have known the person firing the shots, according to police.

A truck was struck by several bullets, but the driver was not injured, police said.

Police took a Rocky Hill man into custody on Tuesday night and charged him with reckless endangerment in the first degree, criminal attempt of assault in the first degree, unlawful discharge of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm.

He was held on a $250,000 bond.
