Police said Brock entered the store at 111 Elm St. Sunday night, pistol-whipped the cashier and took cash from the register.

Mahendra ‘Mike’ Patel, who owns the store, said he was alone when the robber came in.

“Nobody here; only me and him,” Patel said.

Patel said the surveillance photos showed the gunman pointing a weapon right at him and demanding cash.

“Get the money. Get the money,” he said, Patel recalled.

Patel said he could barely see the buttons on his cash register because they were covered with blood.

“I was making noise ‘Help me out, help me out’,” Patel said.

He was rushed to the hospital after the attack and needed several stiches on his forehead and several staples on the back of his head.

“It’s a dangerous job. It’s a dangerous job,” said Ellen Stanley, a West Haven resident and one of Patel’s regular customers.

Patel said he is looking into additional security measures to better protect himself and his business.

Brock was held on bond.
