Rollover Accident Kills Truck Driver

Car strikes parked tractor trailer, killing sleeping driver inside

A truck driver from North Carolina is dead after another vehicle crashed into the sleeper cab of his tractor trailer while it was parked at a rest area off of Interstate 95 in Fairfield.

State police said Mitchell Blankenship, 52, was asleep in his truck when a car slammed into the sleeper cab. The accident happened at 2:17 a.m. on Saturday.
Kevin Rojas, 25, of Stamford was driving a Toyota Corolla and lost control while exiting the highway. The car rolled over and catapulted into the right shoulder, striking the truck.
Police said Blankenship was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Rojas and his female passenger were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
State police said the case is open pending further investigation.
