Woman Killed Days Before Birthday in Crash Involving Student Transport Van in Marlborough

A woman died after a student transport van struck her car head-on in Marlborough early Tuesday evening on Hebron Road (Route 66), also sending a 5-year-old student and the school van driver to the hospital.

Courtney Wilczewski, 22, of Glastonbury, died in the crash just three days before her 23rd birthday.

An Access Transportation Dodge Caravan registered to a Berlin address was transporting a 5-year-old student when driver Felix Pagan, 61, of New Britain, crossed into the oncoming lane and into Wilczewski's path, hitting her eastbound 2005 Nissan Altima head-on just 200 feet west of Shepard Drive at about 4:56 p.m.

Wilczewski's car spun out, hitting the left side of a third vehicle, driven by Stephanie E. Meserve, 42, of Columbia, which was also carrying a 14-year-old.

LifeStar airlifted Wilczewski to Hartford Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:59 p.m.

Pagan, the school van driver, and the 5-year-old student were transported to Hartford hospital for evaluation of non-evident injuries, state police said.

The driver and passenger in the third car weren't injured, so they were released from the scene.

Route 66 was closed near the intersection of Route 2 until about 9 p.m., according to the Department of Transportation.
