Route 9 and Middlesex Turnpike was closed in Old Saybrook on Tuesday because an overhead electric line broke.
Power was out after the overhead electric line broke and was hanging low, causing some burning the woods.
Route 9 was closed from Interstate 95 to exit 3 in both directions because wires were across the roadway.
State police urged drivers to seek alternate routes.
