State Police have identified the man who was killed in a head-on crash on Route 9 southbound in Essex on Monday night.
Troopers said a Subaru entered the highway traveling the wrong direction and collided head-on with another vehicle near exit 3 around 5 p.m.
A third vehicle that was nearby attempted to avoid the crash, but hit the Subaru as it passed.
The driver of the Subaru, later identified as 38-year-old David Moran, of Deep River, was later pronounced dead, according to Connecticut State Police.
The driver of the vehicle that was hit head-on sustained significant injuries and was transported by LifeStar to Hartford Hospital, Troopers said.
Route 9 southbound was closed while police investigated the crash. It has since reopened.
