Route 9 North was closed for four hours Wednesday because of a jackknifed tractor trailer.
The crash happened in the area of exit 29 in New Britain around 8 a.m.
The truck hit the barrier just before exit 29 and the gas tank ruptured. Approximately 50 gallons of fuel spilled onto the highway and into a storm drain, according to state police.
The truck is registered to Andreucci Trucking, of North Haven.
Traffic was backed up for miles and affected Route 72 Eastbound. The highway reopened just after noon.
The truck's driver suffered a minor injury, but refused medical treatment, police said.
