Untimely Death at Sacred Heart University

Sacred Heart University is offering counseling services to students and faculty after the sudden death of a student.

The male student died on campus Thursday afternoon, though few details were available.

According to Bridgeport police, emergency crews responded to Sacred Heart on Park Avenue for an unresponsive person sometime after 1 p.m. Police called the death untimely, but said there is nothing suspicious or criminal about the student's death.

The university contacted the student's parents Thursday evening.

"Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to the family of this student as well as to his friends, professors and other members of the Sacred Heart community who knew him, said Funda Alp, spokesperson for the university.

The student has not been identified.
