Sandy Hook Principal Awarded Doctorate After Death

An upstate New York college is awarding a doctorate degree posthumously to one of the 26 people killed in the Newtown, Connecticut, elementary school shooting massacre.

Sandy Hook Elementary School Principal Dawn Hochsprung was one of six educators killed along with 20 first-graders in the 2012 shooting. She was a doctoral candidate at the Esteves School of Education at The Sage Colleges in Troy, New York.

Sage Colleges Dean of Education Lori Quigley says Hochsprung's husband, daughter and other relatives will attend a commencement ceremony on Saturday to receive the degree.

Hochsprung was pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership. The college has established an education center in her honor.
