Scooter Driver in Critical Condition After Wallingford Crash

A 58-year-old Wallingford man is in critical condition after his scooter and a car crashed on South Elm Street in Wallingford on Friday afternoon.

Police responded to South Elm Street, at Wallace Street, at 12:07 p.m. after the 2014 Nissan Maxima and Huzho-Daixa scooter crashed.

Police identified the scooter driver as Steven Alexander, 58, of Wallingford, and said he was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he is in critical, but stable condition, after suffering severe head injuries.

The driver and passenger in the Nissan Maxima sustained minor cuts to the face and were not hospitalized.

Police said the driver of the Nissan was making a left turn from Wallace Street onto South Elm Street, intending go north, and crossed into the path of Alexander’s scooter, which was going south on South Elm Street.

The road was closed for several hours as police investigated and police ask anyone with information about the crash to call Officer Anthony Baur at 203-294-2817.
