Search for Wolcott Mom’s Body Ends for the Night

Police have ended their search for the day for the body of Cynthia Cannon, 35, of Wolcott.

State police divers or searchers were out in the Scoville Reservoir near Cynthia Cannon’s Wolcott home on Tuesday.

Cynthia Cannon's husband, Patrick Cannon, 44, was charged with her murder. While police made an arrest, they have not found Cynthia Cannon's body. The search was called off on Monday when it got cold and dark. On Tuesday, police, as well as family and friends of Cynthia Cannon, will resume the search.

Patrick Cannon appeared in court just before noon on Monday. He reported the mother of two missing on Friday night. He told police his wife had gone to a Goodwill box around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday to drop off clothes, the Waterbury Republican-American reports.

He also said that when he woke up on Friday, his wife of five years wasn't home and he assumed she was at work.

But police say they uncovered evidence of foul play and they told the Associated Press they believe Cynthia Cannon was killed last week.

The evidence includes blood on the sofa where Cynthia Cannon would sleep in their home at 207 Spindle Hill Road, the wall above it, the back porch, the back stairs and the driveway, according to arrest warrant for Patrick Cannon. He is being held on a $3 million cash bond.

On Monday night, family and friends gathered for a candlelight vigil across the street from the couple's home to remember mother of two.

"She deserves to be brought home.  We need her home, her children need her home," Judy Speranzo said.

Police said there was a domestic violence case involving the couple about five years ago and that incident sent Cynthia to a hospital.

The couple had been having marital problems and told friends that they planned to divorce. Their house is also in foreclosure. Patrick Cannon was laid off from his job nearly a year ago, but has maintained some sort of employment in the Plantsville section of Southington.

Cynthia Cannon is the mother of two children, a 9-year-old from a previous relationship, and a 5-year-old boy with Cannon. The two children are staying with family members.

Patrick Cannon is due in court next on May 26.
