Second Scooter Crash of Month Reported in Willimantic

Police in Willimantic responded to a scooter crash on Wednesday night and it was the second scooter crash this month.

According to police, a 22-year-old Willimantic man lost control of his motorized scooter around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Keating Street and Holbrook Avenue.

The driver was taken to Windham Hospital to be treated for for non-life threatening injuries, police said. Authorities have not released his name, but said he will face charges.

"This is the second serious scooter crash this month within the city," Willimantic police spokesman Cpl. Stan Parizo Jr. said in a statement issued on Wednesday night. "We are warning unlicensed operators of the dangers surrounding the operation of scooters."

A 19-year-old was seriously hurt in a scooter crash Aug. 2.

Police are investigating Wednesday's collision and ask anyone with information to give them a call. Callers will remain anonymous.
