A driver is seriously injured after a crash on Interstate 91 in Cromwell on Sunday afternoon.
Police said 23-year-old Nicolaus Rivera, of Waterbury, was entering I-91 southbound from Route 9 northbound where the entrance merges into the left lane around 3 p.m.
Officers believe Rivera crossed all of the travel lanes, hit the right barrier and began crossing back across the lanes when he hit a vehicle that was in the right center lane.
According to police, Rivera was ejected from his vehicle during the crash with the barrier and sustained serious physical injuries. He was transported to Hartford Hospital.
There were four people in the vehicle that Rivera hit, but police said nobody in the vehicle was injured.
