An SUV careened up onto a sidewalk along Pequot Avenue in New London, hitting two people and leaving one critically injured on Tuesday, according to police.
The accident happened at the traffic circle in front of Electric Boat just after noon.
Police arrived to find a man and a woman injured on the ground.
The woman was unconscious and unresponsive. She was being transported to Yale New Haven Hospital in critical condition, police said.
The man suffered non-life threatening injuries and was being treated at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. The driver, who remained on scene, was also taken to the hospital.
It was not clear what caused the driver to end up on the sidewalk, police said.
