Police ID Man Killed in Crash on Route 44 in Putnam

Connecticut State Police have identified the man who was killed in a crash in Putnam on Saturday afternoon.

Police said 94-year-old Raymond Breault, of Rhode Island, was driving east on Route 44 near Tucker Hill Road while 70-year-old Roland Marois, of Rhode Island, was driving west in the same area around 2:18 p.m.

According to police, Breault's vehicle crossed over the double yellow line and hit Marois's vehicle before coming to an uncontrolled final rest blocking both the east and westbound lanes. Marois's vehicle came to an uncontrolled final rest off the right shoulder of the westbound lane.

Both drivers were transported to UMass Hospital to be treated for suspected serious injuries. On Sunday, police said Marois later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Route 44 near Tucker Hill Road was closed, but has since reopened.
