Teen Seriously Injured in Crash on Route 2 East in East Hartford

A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured and eight other people sustained minor injuries in a four-vehicle crash on the eastbound side of Route 2 in East Hartford just after 1 p.m. Thursday, according to state police.

A Mack truck was stopped in the right of two lanes near the exit 5A off-ramp at 1:11 p.m. because of a traffic backup and the three vehicles coming up behind the truck got into a chain-reaction crash, according to state police.

The driver of the car right behind the truck and a 14-year-old girl in the backseat of the next car had to be pulled from the vehicles, according to state police. 

Everyone other than the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital, according to state police.

Police are investigating.
