Several buildings at Yale University in New Haven were evacuated and police are investigating after receiving calls about bombs being placed in several buildings, according to an alert sent to staff.
Several buildings on the Yale University campus were evacuated, and several streets in the downtown New Haven area were closed. As of 7 p.m., Yale Police and New Haven officials gave the all-clear and the campus is back to normal operations.
University Theatre, Jonathan Edwards College, the Yale Art Gallery, Vanderbilt Hall, Bingham Hall, Welch Hall, Saybrook College and Grace Hopper College were evacuated. An announcement on the university website said Bass Library was closed and in the process of being evacuated.

New Haven police received the threat call to their non-emergency line just before 2 p.m. New Haven's mayor, Justin Elicker, stressed that 911 can only be called from within the city.
The dispatcher was able to keep the caller on the line long enough to get a good amount of information about the situation, New Haven Police Chief Renee Dominguez said.

The buildings that were evacuated are in the area of York Street, Crown Street, Elm Street, and College Street. Streets in that square area were closed but have since been reopened.
People were asked to avoid the downtown New Haven area for several hours.
New Haven police have brought in extra resources, including bomb-sniffing dogs. State police are also providing resources to New Haven and arrived on-scene around 4 p.m.
Students who were forced from their dorms gathered on the New Haven Green.
Yale Police moved them off the Green and into other university buildings to keep them warm and provide them food and bathroom facilities. The students were bused to an undisclosed location to prevent a secondary threat.
Some dining halls will be closed for the night. Students will be notified if their dining hall is closed, but they can eat in any other dining hall, officials said.
