Sexy Shop Headed to Southington

A well-known adult novelty boutique may soon have new digs in Southington.

Very Intimate Pleasures, better know as V.I.P. has obtained initial town approval to move into the former Ethan Allen building on Queen Street.

Neighboring business owners say they are concerned about V.I.P. coming to town and feel the proposed location is no place for a sex shop.

“This section of Queen Street is family oriented.  There’s a family hair salon, a Wal-Mart and two bus stops across the street.  It would be inappropriate.  That’s basically how we feel,” said Dawne Cappellino of Hair For All Salon.

Southington is no stranger to novelty stores like V.I.P.  If you head down the street you’ll find 3 other sex shops and a strip club.

Residents who live across the street have other concerns.

“It’s gonna be really bad for us in this neighborhood because it’s already bad enough getting in and out of our development.  The new traffic being drawn to the area will be really tough,” said Lauralee Hurley of Southington.

The store has locations in Hartford, Manchester and Orange.  It’s trying to open a store in neighboring Berlin, which is now being decided by the courts.

Next month there will be a planning and zoning meeting to discuss V.I.P.’s move to Southington.
