Authorities Investigating After Geocache Found at Sleeping Giant State Park

Authorities are investigating after a geocache was found at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden Saturday afternoon.

Police said there is no public safety concern at this time.

Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden was closed due to a law enforcement investigation, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Police initially were investigating after a suspicious item was found but it was later determined to be a geocache, officials said.

Authorities said the device was removed by the state police bomb squad with the assistance of Hamden fire officials.

The device resembled a pipe bomb, according to police.

EnCon Police, Hamden Police, and the CT State Police Emergency Services Unit are investigating.
