An Alberta clipper is bringing a period of snow to the state and NBC Connecticut has declared today a First Alert Weather Day.
A number of evening events and school activities have been cancelled.

A burst of snow dropped nearly 2 inches of snow in Coventry and Tolland this evening while no accumulation was reported in Hartford. Along the shoreline the precipitation fell as rain.
Temperatures will drop below freezing this evening which will cause untreated surfaces to ice up. A second period of snow showers is possible in a couple towns between 9 p.m. and midnight though for most towns accumulating snow is over.
Winds will become the big story late this evening and especially tomorrow.
A Wind Advisory has been posted for the state tomorrow, when First Alert forecasters expect gusts to be over 40 mph.
More clouds than sun are expected and there can be a flurry in the hills.
