Tolland firefighters collected something extra Saturday in their Fill the Boot campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association -- a wedding band -- and the search to determine who it belongs to was successful.
The woman who drove through the Route 195 - Rhodes Road intersection in Tolland between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday, Sept. 10apparently made a mistake, officials said.
Just after 2 p.m., the Tolland Firefighters union local posted on Facebook that they were looking for the owner:
"We found a wedding ring inside our boot from the MDA Fill the Boot. Please contact Public Safety Officer Fichera if you lost a ring today," the post said.
On Wednesday morning, officials from the Tolland Fire Department said they have found the woman who owns the ring. She lives a couple hours away and they are setting up a time to meet with her and return the ring.
"It's definitely valuable. It's gonna have some meaning to it so we would like to find the owner and return the band back to them," Fichera said Tuesday morning, before they were able to determine who the ring belonged to. "There's a couple markings on the ring they'd be able to describe to me."
The Tolland firefighters fill the boot with cash or coins only, no checks or donations in kind.

Nobody said, "I don't want this ring, you can have it," Fichera said.
"The ring could have fell off their finger," Fichera said Tuesday. "They could have taken the ring off, put it in the cup holder, emptied the change inside the boot."
Firefighters raised $5,100 to fight muscle disease through the fundraiser.
