School Lockdown in New Haven Lifted

Police have been searching for a man wanted in a West Haven case.

Four public schools in the Fair Haven section of New Haven, as well as St. Francis School and St. Rosa of Lima, were locked down as a precaution this morning as New Haven Police worked together with West Haven police in the search for man who is accused of trying to carjack his ex-girlfriend at knife point.

West Haven police have been searching for 38-year-old Brian Heyward, who is wanted in connection with a domestic violence case and car theft.

He's accused of getting into his ex-girlfriend's car with a knife at Second Avenue and Elm Street around 11:30 p.m. The victim said he wanted her drive, but she escaped and called 911.

Heyward fled in a gray 2014 Toyota Camry with Connecticut registration OAJ-DT0, according to police and that car was located on Ferry Street in Fair Haven.

The school lockdowns have been lifted, but it's not clear if there has been any sign of Heyward.
