Stamford Firefighters Douse Fireworks Barge Fire

Stamford firefighters knocked down a fire on a barge full of fireworks Saturday night.

Fire officials say around 10:20 p.m. during the fireworks show off Cummings Beach a fire started on the barge where the fireworks were launched. According to fire officials, small fires are common during fireworks displays and the technicians on the barges are prepared for them, but this one grew too large for them to handle.

The location of the fire made it impossible for the barge to return to shore. The Stamford Fire Boat responded to douse the flames. Several other smaller fires were also extinguished.

No one was injured and no live shells were involved - only used materials. The barge was eventually able to return to dock.
