Stamford Police Officers Rescue Child Who Fell off Pier

Three Stamford police officers jumped into the water at Cummings Park to save a 7-year-old boy who fell in Sunday evening.

Stamford police said that around 6:30 p.m. they were called to the fishing pier for a child that fell off. Police were told that the child could not swim and that he was holding on the a pylon in the water.

Sgt. White rushed into the water from the beach, while Officers Rosa and Montanaro ran down the pier toward the child. The officers noticed that the child’s arms were shaking as he clung to the pylon, so they jumped off the pier into the water. Officer Rosa was able to reach the child and everyone returned to the beach.

The boy was taken to Stamford Hospital where he was treated and released, and he was home with his family as of Sunday night.
