State Police Investigate More Accidents This Thanksgiving

Connecticut State Police investigated more accidents but handed out fewer tickets during the six-day Thanksgiving holiday enforcement period this year compared to 2017.

The department supplemented the normal patrol force with additional troopers from 12:01 a.m. Tuesday until 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

Troopers investigated 573 accidents this year, 60 involving injury and two that resulted in a fatality.

Last year, they investigated 302 accidents, 48 involving injury and two accidents that resulted in a total of three fatalities.

Drunken driving arrests were down slightly, with 25 this year compared to 31 last year.

Speeding and seat belt violations were also down this Thanksgiving season.

Seat belt violations were down significantly, from 668 last year to 291 this year.
