State Police Investigate Police-Involved Shooting in Bristol

A man is hospitalized, in serious condition, after a police-involved shooting on Jacobs Street in Bristol and State Police are investigating.

Annie Plourde and Bruce Chamberland are tenants in the house and said the commotion in their landlord's apartment woke them early Thursday morning.  

Their landlord, Angel R. Diaz, called 911 around 3 a.m. and said their were intruders in the house, they said, but Diaz was the ohly one there.

When police arrived, they saw a man waving a long gun out the window of of a two-family home, but did not find any intruders.

Bristol police were not able to communicate with the man, who they identify as Diaz,  and evacuated the residents of the surrounding homes as a precaution.

Around 3:45 a.m., Diaz came out of the house, armed with the gun and aimed the gun Bristol police, who shot him, police said.  

Paramedics worked on the man and he was rushed to St. Mary's Hospital for surgery, police said. He is in serious condition.

State police are investigating.
