State Police Release Holiday Enforcement Stats

Connecticut State Police have arrested 54 drivers on DUI charges and issued hundreds of tickets as part of holiday traffic enforcement.

Increased patrols began on Friday and were slated to continue through the end of Wednesday.

While the focus has been on curbing drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday state police said they had also issued 594 citations for speeding, 12 for failure to use seatbelts and 36 others for various violations including texting while driving.

Officers investigated 459 accidents over the holiday weekend, including two fatalities and 53 resulting in injuries.
