The dispute over whether Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz is legally qualified be Connecticut's attorney general will be heard in the state's highest court.
A State Supreme Court hearing is set for Tuesday on the appeal of a lower court's ruling that Bysiewicz is qualified for the position she's seeking.
Superior Court Judge Michael Sheldon ruled two weeks ago that Bysiewicz's time as Secretary of the State satisfies the requirement that she be a practicing attorney in Connecticut for at least 10 years.
State GOP Chaiman Chris Healy called that decision "horrible."
He said Judge Sheldon's ruling was too broad and ignored Connecticut law as it applies to the active practice requirement. The Connecticut Republican Party leaders filed the appeal last week.
Bysiewicz called on the Republican Party to stop what she calls "distractions" and to focus on the campaign.
