Still in the Red, But Not By as Much

There’s some positive news from Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s office. Instead of a $1.1 billion dollar deficit plaguing the state, Connecticut is only in the red $968 million, Rell said.

Sure, it’s still a significant amount but Rell says it’s better - thanks to some cost-cutting from a far-reaching agreement with state employee unions.

According to the State’s budget office, Connecticut saved $75 million through a negotiated agreement by the governor and the State Employee Bargaining Agent Coalition.

The agreement was ratified by rank-and-file union members this month and approved by the legislature last week.
