Light snowfall in January

Some parts of the state are seeing the first snowfall since the October nor-easter this morning.

The storm that started on Wednesday night has left between 1 and 3 inches in some areas and rain in others.

West Hartland has the most snowfall, at 3 inches, while Burlington, Torrington, Winsted and Colebrook received 2 inches.

An inch and a half fell in Cornwall and Simsbury, while Tolland has about 1.3 inches and Avon received 1 inch.

More than 20 schools and daycares delayed opening.

Periods of rain are expected through midday, with winds gusting to 40 mph along the shoreline and 30 mph inland.

There will be a few more showers of rain and snow on Friday and the temperature will be much colder this weekend.

This time last year, feet of snow fell.
