Mayor's Dad Accused in Headstone Scam

Dozens of people are out of cash and never received the stones that will mark their final resting places, police said.

The man accused of stealing about $85,000 from prospective clients is the father of a Connecticut mayor.

Richard Miron, 72, former owner of Bridgeport-based Lakeview Monument Company, stole the money from more than 50 customers but never gave them their headstones or their money back, police said.

Miron was arrested on Saturday on a felony larceny charge and released on a $10,000 bond, the Connecticut Post reports.

Miron is the father of Stratford Mayor James Miron.

Richard Miron also has a third-degree larceny charge pending in a similar case.  He could not be reached for comment. Mayor James Miron declined to comment.

Richard Miron is due in Bridgeport Superior Court on April 6.
