Hundreds of budding filmmakers are descending on the "Brass City" for the Connecticut Student Film Festival at the Palace Theater Friday afternoon.

It's an "Oscar-like" atmosphere that celebrates the year-long work of 400 middle and high school students from across Connecticut. They wrote, produced and directed a wide variety of innovative, cutting-edge film programs in a variety of categories.

The festival is a collaboration between Connecticut business, government, K–12 education, higher education, and not-for-profit organizations that support programs for Connecticut urban and suburban students.

Their work is judged by a panel of industry professionals and college faculty and the winners will be recognized at the festival.
