Two Adults, Juvenile Arrested in Connection With Vernon Stabbing

Two adults and a juvenile were arrested in connection with the stabbing of a 17-year-old on a trail in Vernon Friday night, according to police.

The stabbing happened just after 10 p.m. on the Rails to Trails near the Ryefield Apartment Complex.

The male was stabbed multiple times in his torso, legs and head, according to police.

Police said they located a car in the Terrace Drive apartment complex that was believed to be involved in the incident. Police found a hunting knife, a baseball bat and a wooden pole that had knife blades taped to both ends in the car.

Haley Machholz, 19, of Vernon, and Jakwai Sosa, 20, of Hartford, were arrested along with a 15-year-old that was in the car with them. The three were charged with possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

The male was a student at Rockville High School, according to police.

Police said this was not a random act.

Machholz posted a $100,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on Sept. 16. Sosa is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on Sept. 16. The 15-year-old is being held in a juvenile detention center.
