Teen's Fenway Dreams Come True

State Rep. Organizes Red Sox Trip for Deserving Teen

On the north side of the state capitol, David Alejandro boarded a bus to Fenway Park. He was on his way to Tuesday's Red Sox-White Sox game with his family and former little league teammates.

Alejandro, 15, was diagnosed with cancer last year and finished chemotherapy just a few weeks ago. State Rep. Minnie Gonzalez heard about David's dream to visit Fenway and stepped in. Gonzalez, with the help of Dattco and Ryan Marketing, organized a trip for David and his friends to Boston. "I know he's happy. He's excited," Gonzalez said, "I'm a Yankee fan and I'm excited, but today I'm a Red Sox fan."

The feeling was mutual among David's former teammates. Many of them are Yankees fans but jumped at the chance to accompany David to Fenway. "I think they'd rather it be a Yankee game," Alejandro said, "but they're excited."

What makes the trip even more special for David is that his favorite player is taking the mound. "Jon Lester, he's my favorite player because he's a good pitcher and he had cancer just like me."

David and his friends are hoping to get to Boston early enough to meet some of the Red Sox players. "I'm very grateful for all of this," Alejandro said.
