117 Crashes on Snowy Roads

After a three-week break, snow fell again in Connecticut and it caused some  issues on roads across the state.

Since the snow started falling, state police responded to 751 calls for service, including 117 crashes. There were no major incidents, but an ambulance and a car collided in Wallingford, closing Gaylord Farms Road between Parker Farms and Wallingford roads.

Crashes were also reported on Interstate 84 in Waterbury, between exits 17 and 18, and on the Merritt Parkway.   

While most schools are closed on Monday in honor of Presidents Day, a few schools were scheduled to open and have been affected.

The fast-moving storm will fly off to our south this morning, taking the heaviest snow with it. Brighter weather will develop this afternoon and road conditions will improve.

This system will produce 1 inch to 3 inches of new snow for most of the state with a few towns in Fairfield County getting nearing 4 inches by midday. 

High pressure will overspread the region on Monday night, bringing with it colder than normal weather tonight through Wednesday.

Overnight lows should fall to around 10 above and daytime highs will only be near 30-35 degrees.

The last substantial snowfall across the state was on Feb. 1 and 2, when 9.4 inched fell at Bradley International Airport. The total for the season, before this new snow is 79.9 inched. This is the sixth snowiest season ever in the Hartford area.
